CORI Applauds Gavi’s New Funding Window for Mpox Vaccine Stockpile
August 6, 2025 - Johns Hopkins Center for Outbreak Response Innovation (CORI), housed within the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security (CHS), congratulates the Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance Board on its decision to open a funding window for the establishment of an mpox emergency vaccine stockpile. CORI is proud to have contributed to the research program commissioned by Gavi to inform the learning agenda on evidence for mpox vaccine stockpile size and benefits.
Proposed to be managed by the International Coordinating Group (ICG), the stockpile will enable the rapid deployment of vaccines and support timely, targeted response efforts. This initiative has the potential to significantly reduce transmission in high-risk settings—directly aligning with the CORI’s commitment to advancing evidence-based strategies that strengthen outbreak preparedness and response.
CORI and CHS commend Gavi for playing a key role in improving global health security by supporting health systems as well as funding other global stockpiles for Ebola, cholera, meningococcal and yellow fever vaccines. A recent Gavi-commissioned study on the stockpiles shows emergency vaccine response has cut infectious disease deaths by nearly 60% since 2000.
